Sullivan County Court Record Requests
Begin with MyCase. It carries public case data, the CCS, and any document marked with a download icon. Keep one caution in mind. MyCase is not the official court record. For the real file, Tonya Bedwell, Sullivan County Clerk, is the local contact for Circuit and Superior Court copies, certification, costs, bonds, payments, and questions about where a record request should go.
- Find the case number in MyCase, or collect a narrow party name, case type, citation, and filing-date range.
- State whether the file is in Sullivan Circuit Court or Sullivan Superior Court. If uncertain, give the Clerk enough detail to locate it.
- Describe the exact item, such as the CCS, an order dated on a known day, a judgment, a bond entry, or a certified record.
- Choose inspection, ordinary copy, certified copy, electronic delivery, mail, or counter pickup, subject to what the Clerk offers.
- Call (812) 268-4657 to confirm the route and current charge before sending funds or sensitive material.
- Mail a confirmed request to Sullivan County Clerk, P.O. Box 370, Sullivan, IN 47882, or visit Room 304 at 100 Courthouse Square.
The Clerk page lists hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The fax number differs between the county page and the state directory, so confirm by phone. The county publishes no dedicated public Clerk email.
Sullivan County Court Record Gap
The county does maintain a Court Document Requests division page. Its official text says more information is coming soon. No request form or delivery directions are posted. That gap does not close off court case records. It simply means the Clerk's phone, counter, and confirmed mail route matter more. The official Court Document Requests page shows the current public status.
The web page may stay sparse. A precise case number and a clear document description still let staff route a request to the right Sullivan County court file.
Kinds of Court Records
Think of the CCS as an index-like event history. The Sullivan County case file holds the papers attached to those events, when access rules allow and depending on the form the file is kept in.
- Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, affidavits, notices, summonses, and proofs of service
- Orders, judgments, warrants, bond papers, sentencing orders, and payment records
- Family, probate, guardianship, protective-order, and adoption filings where public access is allowed
- Exhibits and administrative filings, which may face limits based on content or format
- Transcripts, kept by the court reporter under Sullivan local rule LR77-AR15-1
A CCS event you can see does not guarantee its document is public online. The item may be confidential, sealed, unscanned, or available only by direct inspection or a copy request to the clerk.
Sullivan County Court Records Elsewhere
The county Document Center searches county publications rather than court cases. Filters cover title, document type, department, category, topic, and year. It can surface forms, agendas, minutes, ordinances, public notices, or court-adjacent material. It offers no case number, citation number, party, attorney, case status, filing-date, or CCS-event fields. The Sullivan County Document Center displays those publication filters.
Use it for county material. It is no substitute for the Sullivan County judicial case file in Odyssey and MyCase.
Court Records: What They Contain
Read the case summary before asking for a document. Its fields can pinpoint the exact court record and spare you from requesting a broad file when one order will do.
| Case Number | The Rule 8 identifier, such as a number beginning 77C01 or 77D01. |
|---|---|
| Court and Type | Sullivan Circuit or Superior and the case classification. |
| Status and Filed | The recorded status, status date, and filing date. |
| Parties and Attorneys | Public roles and representation fields, with protected data withheld as required. |
| CCS Events | Dated filings, hearings, orders, results, document icons, and comments. |
| Financial Information | Displayed fees, credits, payments, and balance data that may lag the Clerk's official account. |
A missing download icon does not prove the document is gone. Ask the clerk whether it is public but not digitized, restricted, or held in another form.
Sullivan County Court Records After Odyssey
Sullivan Circuit and Sullivan Superior went live in Odyssey on May 20, 2019. The state report puts Sullivan's addition to statewide e-filing in August 2019. E-filing is for submitting papers. Public reading still runs through MyCase or a Clerk request. Converted older events can carry short descriptions. A sparse online line may justify a direct inquiry into the file. The Indiana e-filing page documents the filer-facing system.
Its filing tools should not be confused with public CCS and document access.
Copy Fees and Certification
An ordinary printout, a certified copy, a file inspection, and a transcript are different products. The county fee page publishes no usable court-copy schedule. Confirm the amount and the accepted payment method before ordering. Also note that a PayGov receipt does not prove a filing was accepted or that a record is certified.
| Record Service | Published Amount | Custodian or Next Step |
|---|---|---|
| MyCase public search | Free | Use the state public portal |
| Ordinary court copy | Not located in county source | Confirm with Sullivan County Clerk |
| Certified court copy | Not located in county source | Confirm seal and total with Clerk |
| Standard private transcript | $4.75 per page in LR77-AR15-1 | Request through court reporter |
| Expedited transcript | Up to $8 per page; added $3 per page within three working days | Confirm current rule and availability |
| Transcript copy | One-half original transcript rate | Confirm with court reporter |
The Clerk Fee Schedule page is the official county place to recheck.
The missing dollar table is a reason to call. It is not a basis for guessing a charge.
Sullivan County Court Record Payments
The Clerk page links to PayGov. The public county description does not define which court and record payment types the vendor supports. Confirm the case, purpose, amount, and posting method with the Clerk first. Never route a court copy through the county Treasurer's tax-payment system. The linked Sullivan Clerk PayGov screen is the payment destination shown by the Clerk.
Keep the receipt with the request, but certification comes from the Clerk, not from the vendor.

Narrow Sullivan County Court Record Requests
A focused request helps the Clerk separate a CCS copy from the filed paper behind one event. Give the Sullivan court name, case number, event date, document title, requested format, and a safe contact method. No case number? Add the case type, a limited party search, a citation, or a narrow filing range. Say whether you need certification. Never send a full set of private identifiers just to locate one public order. Ask staff to explain whether an item is public, online, held only in paper or converted form, or routed to a court reporter. A transcript request follows LR77-AR15-1 and goes to the reporter or court. A filed judgment or certified CCS goes to the Clerk. Keeping those routes distinct saves time and avoids paying for the wrong product. A reasonably particular request identifies the Sullivan County court record without demanding a broad name-based collection or protected contents.
Access Rules for Court Records
Indiana's Rules on Access to Court Records govern judicial files in Sullivan County. APRA, IC 5-14-3, also plays a role, covering reasonably particular requests to public agencies along with inspection, copying, and fees. Still, that statute cannot override a court-record exclusion or a sealing order from a judge.
Current access framework:
Access Rule 4 presumes court records are accessible unless Rule 5 excludes them.
Access Rule 5 covers confidential cases, sealed records, protected reports, treatment information, images, and required redactions.
Access Rule 6 requires a formal process and findings for extraordinary exclusion.
Administrative Rule 9 governs courthouse, remote, calendar, and compiled-data access.
When a document is missing from a Sullivan County court docket, there is usually a reason. It may be restricted, unscanned, or available only at the counter. Call the Clerk and ask which rule, statute, order, or technical limit applies. A clerk cannot reveal protected contents or override a judge's order, but the Sullivan County docket search covers the fuller search route.
