Search Sullivan Court Records

For a Sullivan court docket, start with the county. Sullivan has no municipal court of its own in the current state directory, so tickets, disputes, and police referrals all land in Sullivan Circuit or Superior Court. City Hall holds ordinances, council records, and other city files, not judicial dockets. An exact case or citation number makes the Sullivan court docket search far easier. Read which court a result belongs to, then confirm any hearing or copy order with the county clerk, whose office keeps the official record.

Sullivan Court Docket Searches

Open Indiana MyCase and pick Sullivan County, not the city. The Case tab fits a case, citation, or cross-reference number. Name works for a party. Attorney covers a lawyer or bar number. Broad results narrow down with the status and file-date fields. Once you open the Case Summary, check the court, case type, filed date, status, and the newest CCS events. Conclude nothing before that.

  1. Gather the exact name or identifier.
  2. Select Sullivan County in the Court field.
  3. Choose Criminal and Citation, Civil, Family, or Probate when useful.
  4. Open the matching result and check its court code.
  5. Ask the Clerk about missing documents, older records, or certification.

MyCase serves the public, but it is not the official record. Coverage and online documents vary from case to case. A missing icon does not prove no filing exists. An empty result may reflect restricted access or older converted data. Verify key facts against the filed order or the record the Clerk maintains.

Sullivan City and Court Records

The City of Sullivan stores ordinances, meeting material, utilities, and other administrative files. City Hall sits at 110 North Main Street. None of that is a judicial case. The Sullivan County Clerk holds the court side. That means CCS entries, pleadings accepted for filing, orders, judgments, costs, and copy requests. A city police report might connect to a case, yet it never replaces the court record. The official city source shows that separate municipal channel.

City Hall answers council and ordinance questions. For a disposition, certified order, or CCS history, go to the County Clerk.

Inside the Sullivan Municipal Court

The Indiana Court Directory lists no Sullivan Municipal Court right now. Superior Court takes all traffic infractions, misdemeanors, and small claims. Circuit Court takes juvenile, paternity, CHINS, probate, guardianship, adoption, and commitment matters. Local exceptions apply. The allocation plan adds more. Felonies, many civil cases, protective orders, divorces, and legal separations can land in either court. Case numbers tell you which. A prefix of 77C01 means Circuit. A prefix of 77D01 means Superior. The year and month follow, then a case-type code and a six-digit sequence. Historical files marked 77E01 belong to the County Court, which no longer exists. That code locates the file; it says nothing about the outcome.

Finding Sullivan Court Dates

The newest CCS hearing entries are the first place to check a court date. Confirm anything important with the court itself. Sullivan does not appear on the live CourtCal participating-county list. Do not treat that service as the local calendar. A continuance request alone proves nothing. The date only moved when an order or later event shows the result.

Date and timeThe current setting recorded in the CCS.
CourtSullivan Circuit or Superior, not a city court.
ReasonArraignment, pretrial, trial, review, or another hearing type.
ResultA completed, reset, or canceled event when entered.

One canceled hearing never means the whole case was dismissed.

Sullivan Courthouse Record Hub

Sullivan is the county seat and the only city among the five ranked communities. Circuit and Superior Courts both sit in the courthouse at 100 Courthouse Square. The current building went up in 1928. You will find the Clerk’s Office in Room 304, and its published phone is (812) 268-4657. Posted hours run weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., though you should verify before traveling.

The official Clerk page lists the local contact route. Mail requests can go to P.O. Box 370, Sullivan, IN 47882. State the court, the case number, the event or document you need, the date range, and the copy type. Skip any private data the request does not require.

In-person requests deserve the same specificity. Bring a case number if you have one, name Circuit or Superior, and say whether you want the CCS, a filed order, a judgment, or something else. Certification costs extra beyond an ordinary copy. Transcripts take a different route entirely, since the local rule names the court reporter as transcript custodian. A quick call can save a trip driven by an old fee, a vague document name, or a record that needs review first.

Sullivan Odyssey Record History

Sullivan’s courts moved onto Odyssey in 2019. Entries converted from older systems often show less detail than recent electronic filings.

That state history explains why two eras of a Sullivan docket can look so different. Indiana also describes the technology behind trial-court records.

Remote access is useful, but the filed record remains with the court and Clerk.

Sullivan Traffic Ticket Lookups

Every Sullivan ticket is filed in Superior Court, not a municipal one. Keep the UTT or citation number, leading zeroes included. Eligible tickets can be searched through the official Indiana ePay service. MyCase also works with a citation number. Not every ticket appears or can be paid online. When nothing comes up, do not assume the ticket vanished. Ask the court named on the ticket and the Clerk. The county traffic court page lays out the full payment, contest, and infraction-deferral route. Confirm current balances with the Clerk, since online financial displays can lag.

Sullivan Search Problems and Fixes

When a Sullivan court record will not show up, start with the search itself. Retype the case number both ways, with punctuation and without. In a traffic search, keep the UTT number exactly as cited. Check spelling, name order, and the filing range too. Pick Sullivan County in the court field. A statewide query can hit its result cap before your person ever appears.

Look hard at whatever paper sent you searching. A utility notice or a council action is not a case number. The same goes for a police incident number. The county Document Center hunts through government publications by title, department, category, topic, and year, not by party names or CCS events. Federal cases are a separate world. MyCase will never show them; the Southern District of Indiana runs its own docket systems.

Still stuck? Call the Clerk. Ask whether the case predates local online coverage, was converted from an older system, moved to the other Sullivan court, or sits in a paper file at the counter. Never ask staff to unseal a confidential record. What you want is the right public file and the office that holds it.

How Sullivan Cases Reach the County

A city agency can write the ticket or make the referral, but the case itself is filed straight into the county system. There is no city-court stop along the way.

Federal matters run through the Terre Haute Division of the Southern District of Indiana and PACER, not MyCase. For state cases, the Sullivan County court docket is the wider county route.

Sullivan Court Record Fields

A Case Summary lists the case number, court, type, filing date, status, parties, attorneys, cross references, related cases, and dated CCS events. Those events might be filings, service, appearances, motions, orders, hearings, judgments, payments, transfers, dismissals, or closure. An icon can open a public filing. No icon does not mean the clerk has no document.

Open
The case remains active; check the latest event for the next step.
Closed
A disposition was entered, but the label alone does not state its terms.
Canceled
The marked hearing did not proceed as set; it is not automatically a dismissal.
Converted event
An older entry migrated from a prior case system.

Sullivan Population Is Not Caseload

The Census Bureau put Sullivan at 4,229 residents in its 2025 incorporated-place estimate. That ranks it first among the county's official top five incorporated places. The figure is handy for scale and nothing more. It counts no cases, litigants, tickets, or hearings. A population row and an Indiana trial-court statistics table answer entirely different questions.

County-seat status matters far more for record access than the headcount. People in Shelburn, Farmersburg, Dugger, and Hymera share the same county courts. So do the smaller towns. A Sullivan resident's case lands in Circuit or Superior. Assignment turns on subject and allocation, never on a special city calendar. The state directory lists no separate town dockets. Their cases appear only there.

Practical point: Use Sullivan as a city-of-origin fact, but use Sullivan County as the MyCase court selector.

For caseload context, certified ICOR reports break down county trial-court activity by year and court. That is the right source for the big picture. Still, finding one case, one date, or one order is a job for the CCS.

Who Can See Sullivan Court Records

Public access rests on Indiana Access to Court Records Rule 4. Rule 5 carves out confidential records and protected data. Some juvenile, mental-health, adoption, sealed, and expunged matters fall under it. Rule 6 sets out how a court can order something excluded. Even a public case may hold redactions. Some of its documents may not be online.

Key rules:

Access Rule 4 states the general access rule.

Access Rule 5 identifies excluded records and information.

Access Rule 6 governs court-ordered exclusion requests.

Ask for one narrow record, then confirm it with the clerk who holds it. City administrative files and county court files are separate channels and stay that way.
